Lance Drake
IT Director – Executive Management TeamWhat is your role at New Victoria Hospital?
I am the IT Director and Senior Information Risk Officer for the Hospital. I am responsible for implementing the digital strategy of the Hospital and ensuring the security of the sensitive information we hold.
Why did you Join New Victoria Hospital?
I joined the hospital to implement a new computer system. At that time, I was the only IT person on staff. I worked with colleagues in numerous departments to implement that system. Since then, there has been constant change and development. Always interesting, always exciting.
How long have you been with New Victoria Hospital?
I joined the hospital in 2003, but my career in healthcare IT started in 1991. Before joining the Hospital, I worked for healthcare organisations and healthcare software providers in the UK, USA, Africa and the Middle East.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I enjoy being part of a team that operates in an environment where there is constant change. I love working with departments in the Hospital that provide different types of care to patients.
What makes you most proud of your job?
I love working for a charity. I am proud of the caring reputation of the Hospital. I love the fact that the Hospital is a small organisation and can respond quickly to new challenges. I am, obviously, very proud of the Hospital’s IT department and what it has been able to achieve to improve the service provided by the Hospital to doctors and patients.
